- This year my visit to Tristan got off with a very good start. The sail from Cape Town to Tristan was on the maiden voyage of the SA Agulhas II, and what a swanky ship it really is.

- The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has announced that the new Director for the Overseas Territories is Peter Hayes, who took up office on 15 October 2012, replacing Colin Roberts, who is taking up another Diplomatic Service posting.

- The MV Edinburgh is due to depart Tristan on Tuesday the 16th October
(weather permitting), she had been fishing at the Tristan group since
her arrival on the 30th August.
