Most of you will remember that I produced a list of what I hoped to do while I was away from the Island. I also said I would report back on the various meetings and impressions of my absence, and this is that report. We departed via Cape Town and on the RMS I had a meeting with the crew.
The draft Constitution, dated 25 June 2008, has been published for the purpose of public consultation in St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha during the coming months. In large part it is a modified version of the draft Constitution prepared in 2003-2005, and includes some of the constitutional reforms discussed at that time.
The MV Edinburgh departed Cape Town on the evening of Friday 20th June, after being delayed due to unforeseen repairs being carried out while the vessel was in dry-dock.
Ratting Day was held on Friday 6th June. At first light, the Chief Islander Conrad Glass rang the gong, to signal to the men and women that it was a public holiday and Ratting Day. As soon as the gong sounded, the men were off hunting rats & mice for the day.
It is reported from Cape Town that the MV Edinburgh's estimated departure on the 16th June has been postponed until Friday 20th June. This is due to unforeseen repairs being carried out while the vessel is in dry-dock.
