Tristan is experiencing electricity problems and was without power from 8:30pm on Friday the 15th February until 12:30pm on Sunday the 17th February, this was due to mechanical problems on the one engine capable of running power to the islanders homes.

According to BBC World Service an acute virus has broken out on Tristan da Cunha and that medicines needed to treat it have run out. News direct from the Island has dismissed the urgency for medications.

The world’s most remote inhabited island can now access advanced telemedical care, thanks to pro-bono services and support from a high-technology team led by IBM and Beacon Equity Partners. Tristan da Cunha is located more than 1,665 miles west of Cape Town, South Africa, and is accessible only by a boat trip lasting a week or more.
