- On the 1st February the 21m long ketch yacht Ocean Tramp arrived from the Falkland Islands with a team of Scientists to carry out scientific work at Nightingale Island.

 - The weather has been exceptionally bad this year with very few sunny days, so the first break in the weather the opportunity was taken. Sheep Shearing is normally held around the breakup for Christmas, which this year was on the 18th December.

- Tristan da Cunha is an active volcano and a future eruption is inevitable. Knowing when, where and how large the next eruption will be is the aspiration of any volcanologist and is important for those living close to active volcanoes. Unfortunately, the complexities of nature often triumph over scientific knowledge, so volcanologists can only gather clues and use their training, modern scientific techniques and equipment to make a best estimate.

 - Since the Tug Zouros Hellas departed Tristan on Saturday the 29th July without being able to remove the rig, the Tristanians have been waiting anxiously to see what was to become of it.

 - The Tug Zouros Hellas departed Tristan on Saturday the 29th July without being able to removed the Rig from her stranded position at 37 08.662 S 12 14.635 W in Trypot Bay.
The tug has been around Tristan since June and has made several attempts to pull her off during good weather, however the tug now having enough towing power was unable to budge her.

- British Geological Survey have taken an interest in the on-going tremors that have been plaguing Tristan da Cunha for the past month and a half. They are sending Dr. Victoria Hards, who arrives on 10 September aboard SA AGULHAS. While on Tristan, she will be studying seismic data.
