PUMA Ocean Racing yacht is dismasted NW of Tristan

On 21st November, the Tristan da Cunha Authorities were alerted, that the American yacht Puma had lost her mast approximately 700 nm NW of Tristan da Cunha.

Under jury rig and motoring they headed for Tristan da Cunha, where they were met by the fisheries patrol vessel Wave Dancer at 0530 on Saturday morning, who escorted them to the anchorage.

The Administrator at the harbour with other officials met nine of the eleven crew that came ashore in the police RIB. They are now settle in  their accommodation in the William Glass Guest House and the Governors house, where they will stay until a vessel collects them and their yacht at the end of the week.

The vessel will take Puma aboard and deliver her to Cape Town for repairs, in order for her to take part in Leg 2 of the race, which departs Cape Town on the 11th December.
