Sheep Shearing was held on Saturday the 12th December 2009.

The weather has been exceptionally bad this year with very few sunny days, so the first break in the weather the opportunity was taken.  Sheep Shearing is normally held around the breakup for Christmas, which this year was on the 18th December.  However the sheep were brought back from Anchorstock the day before, so whilst rounded up the opportunity was taken to shear the next day.

Although the weather fax predicted rain in the afternoon, it held off to early evening.

Like always Sheep Shearing is a day when family and friends come together, to help each other or to shear as a group.  The men and children went early to the sheep pen west of the potato patches to gather the sheep, whilst the women follow later in the morning, with the lunch packs.  The children especially enjoy the day as they got to chase and catch the sheep and lambs, for their parents and friends.  After returning home to the settlement, many families joined to have a braai/ barbecue to end the day.
