Shipping News

The Sailing vessel Europa arrive on the 29th March from South Georgia and departed on the 31st March, the passengers landed at Tristan on Sunday to excellent weather.  On the 31st March she sailed across to Nightingale in the early hours of the morning, whilst the two RIB’s from the island, carrying guides, followed a few hours later.  30 passengers managed to land at Nightingale and were taken to visit the marshes where they were able to see the Yellow-nosed Albatross adults and chicks.

They also manage to see the Rock Hopper penguins and seals as well as other birds.   After returning to the boat, many of the passengers had a swim in Petrel Bay.  The island boats returned with the guides later in the day, and the vessel departed for Cape Town.

The Professor Molchanov arrived on Sunday the 5th April (Palm Sunday) although there was no landing of passengers until after the church services.  The next day the vessel went to Nightingale and Inaccessible, but were unable to land any passengers because of bad weather. The Tristan guides stayed onboard overnight hoping to land them the next day, however the weather did not improve, and the guides had to be collected by the Police RIB before the vessel departed for St Helena.

The Baltic Trader departed Cape Town on the 4th April with another cargo of materials for the refurbishing of the harbour, she is due to arrive on Easter Saturday.
