Visit of Constitutional Review Team

The Constitutional Review Team will arrive on 12 November 2008 to continue discussion on a revised constitution for St Helena. Their visit will last for approximately two and a half days.

The team from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office will include Andrew Allen who is Head of the Southern Oceans Team and Legal Advisers Ian Hendry and Susan Dickson.

In commenting on their upcoming visit, the team said “we are very much looking forward to our visit to St Helena. We hope to make progress with the proposed new Constitution, which we believe will be an important step forward for St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. So we are glad to have the opportunity of meeting elected St Helena Councillors, and of participating in a public meeting on St Helena.” The team added “We are also looking forward to our visit to Ascension, and to discussing the proposed Constitution with Ascension Island Councillors and the public on Ascension.”

The visit is being funded by the FCO and will allow members of the public to discuss, with the team, the proposed revisions to the existing constitution.
