MV Edinburgh

The Edinburgh arrived at Tristan just after midnight on Thursday the 24th January, she deployed her fishing gear at one of the nearby islands before anchoring at Tristan to wait the unloading of cargo. This started early morning although there was a slight swell, they manage to land the passengers, 14 bags of late Christmas mail and clear all the cargo from one hold, as well as the fresh fruit and frozen. The weather prediction is that it will improve on Saturday when the remainder of the cargo will be landed. She brought with her Tristanians that been in Cape Town for medical treatment and a Financial Adviser from London. He will hopefully be able to advise us on ways in which we can reduce expenditure and improved our economy. The vessel will then return to the fishing grounds to complete the remainder of the lobster quota for this season.

Kelso Arrives with survey team

On Thursday the 24th January the Kelso also arrived at 11pm with a team of seven Royal Engineers to conduct a reconnaissance study of Calshot Harbour. If all goes to plan this will be followed by the main team of 50 Royal Engineers that plan to arrive on the RFA Lyme Bay from the UK, around the beginning of March. This team will be bringing all the plant and materials necessary to repair the harbour before the winter storms arrive. The vessel has also been very helpfully in agreeing to carry private mail and small packages from the UK for the island community.

The Kelso has unloaded her cargo and will pump fuel to the island factory on Friday the 25th January. She will depart for Cape Town as soon as the team has completed their survey, which should be early next week.
