Tristan : Weekly News from Tristan (31/01/07)
Submitted by Tristan Times (Sarah Glass) 31.01.2007 (Article Archived on 14.02.2007)

Find out what has happened on Tristan Da Cunha last week.

The Edinburgh arrived at Tristan on the 28th January after completing catching her remaining quota of 14mt at Inaccessible Island.  She collected passengers from the fishing vessel Kelso at the back of the island before anchoring at the settlement around 11:30am.  Passengers were ready and back loading of passenger's luggage took place immediately.

Passengers include Lindsay Repetto, and Gerald Repetto going for Medical treatment, Elaine Mawer (nee Repetto) and three children (Lindsay Repettos daughter) who were on holiday and Dr Joerg Jaschinski his wife and three children, Dr Joerg had been an excellent doctor during his period on the island and will be sadly missed, especially by the pensioners.  Also departing for Gough Island as part of the research team (to eradicate the sagina grass and do a survey count of the Wandering Albatrosses) were Tristanians  Simon Glass and Matthew Green two of the original Darwin team.  They will remain on Gough for approximately six weeks and will be collected by the fishing vessel Edinburgh on her cargo trip in March.

The Edinburgh's crew landed the research team of Tristanians and four persons from South Africa, under the supervision of Dr John Cooper.  Also visiting was a medic to replace the present one on the South African Metrological Team, the latter who will be returning to Cape Town.   It is the vessels intention to make a quick turn around, she will load much needed cargo for the island and hopefully depart from Cape Town again next week.
