TRISTAN’S BITS AND PIECES

By Sarah Glass (Tristan Times)

Visitors on the Agulhas next month include Ken Lunn and Ann Day, two researchers who are coming to conduct an oral history project. Their purpose will be to recode the memories of Tristanians who were evacuated from the island 1961-63. They also plan to record the experiences of a cross section of the community, young and old, about life on Tristan so that personal history can be built up and preserved for future generations.

As well as visiting and talking to pensioners and their families, Bob and Ann also hope to work with the school, involving the children in the interview programme and in helping to set up a small exhibition.

Copies of the recording will be left in the Museum here, and will also be deposited with the National Sound Archive at the British Library in London.

The Edinburgh arrived at Tristan got the passengers off, but was unable to unload cargo, she has been fishing but will come to the island today to unload.
