Tristan : Jac Spaans Says Hello

Jac Spaans will be visiting Tristan aboard the Europa. He has a history with Tristan, as his small article explains.

-----------------------------------------
I will visit Tristan da Cunha from 15 - 17 April on board of the 3 mast barque Europa. I hope that we will have the opportunity to go ashore.

I visited Tristan on 19 October 1956 and 22 August 1957 with the mv "Tjinegara"; we loaded boxes with lobster brought to the ship by longboats propelled by oars. We had no opportunity to go ashore, but several islanders visited the Tjinegara with the luxury passenger facilities.
In 1959 I was 3rd officer on board mv "Straat Mozambique" when we rescued the fishing vessel Frances Repetto with some 40 people on board on her way from Tristan to Cape Town with motor damage. We towed the Frances Repetto 21 - 26 March 1959 to Cape Town.
If anybody on Tristan remembers these events I would like to talk to them next April.
Hope to meet you.

Kind regards, Jac Spaans, The Netherlands
