After weeks in captivity, the first batch of oiled penguins was released back to sea. First, Mothers’ Day the day ended with good cheer late afternoon, as members of the community watched the first batch of penguins being released at Salt Pot, just west of the harbour. Coincidently at the same time the Edinburgh rounded Hottentot Point with another batch from (Alex Island) at Nightingale.

As islanders are well aware at this time of year all the penguins leave on their migration, and most of the penguin rookeries around Tristan are already empty.
