GOOD POTATO HARVEST FOR TRISTAN

By J. Brock (SARTMA-TDC)

Islanders harvest a lot of potatoes this year.

Unlike last year, the potato harvest on Tristan da Cunha has been very good.  Some of the harvesters say that the yield is three times better but there is a snag.  Due to the change in seed, islanders are concerned that the crop won't keep.  There apparently are brown spots in the centre of the larger potatoes that are causing some alarm.  Islanders now will have to wait and see how the potatoes keep.

More later when the author returns to the Falklands.
