The Total Allowable Catches (TAC) for the 2009/10 season has finally been completed with the help of the MV Edinburgh. The TAC at Tristan was the most difficult to forefilled, not because the status of the stock but due to the lack of fishing days, weather and workable harbour conditions.

The nine local boats at Tristan caught a total of 126,651 in 34 days, for the season with the MV Edinburgh catching the balance of 55,862 making a Total of 182,513 Kgs.  The highest catch this year landed in a single day with 10 traps and 26 ring nets was 992kgs in 12 hours by fishermen Cliff Swain and Gary Repetto, next highest was Martin Green and John Lavarello with 976Kgs.

The Inaccessible TAC of 110 ton was caught in 74 days, Nightingale TAC of 72 ton in 34 days and Gough Islands TAC of 75 ton once the problem island was caught in just 26 days.  The islands will now have a rest, and maintenance will be carried out on the boats until the Tristan TAC starts again on the 1st July.
