Shipping News - 13th October 2009

The Baltic Trader carrying the islands cargo, which included the material for the new Post Office and Museum, as well as the new Police station, arrived on Saturday the 3rd October after a 10-day trip, from Cape Town.  Onboard was the Administrator David Morley and his wife returning from on leave and the contract workers to help build the above buildings.  To date due to bad weather she has still not completed the offloading.

The M.V. Edinburgh is doing very well regarding the catching of the outer islands quotas, and arrived at Tristan on the 6th October, to transfer Lobster product to the Baltic Trader, for onward transfer to Cape Town.  After the transfer she  departed again for the fishing grounds.

The SA Agulhas arrived at Inaccessible on the 5th October from Gough Island, and transferred Prof Peter Ryan, another field worker and their equipment, to Inaccessible Island, where they will be doing conservation work, for the next two months.  The vessel then anchored off the settlement at Tristan and the passengers were flown by helicopter to the vessel, early on Wednesday the 7th October, before departing for Cape Town at midday.  She is due to arrive in Cape Town at 8am on the 13th October.
