SA AGULHAS ARRIVES FOR HER ANNUAL VISIT TO TRISTAN

SA Aguhas has arrived at Tristan on 10 September 2009 to disembark passengers as well as some freight and mail.Twenty-eight people made the journey from Cape Town.Some, like Anton Wolfaardt, the UK’s ACAP Coordinator will be travelling on to GoughIsland, where, along with Tristan’s Conservation Department, an assessment will take place of the impact of genetically modified mice on the Albatross population.Crew at the South African weather station will also be changed and the infrastructure maintained.
Also transported ashore on Agulhas’ helicopter was Monsignor Michael B. McPartland, the Prefect Apostolic for the South Atlantic.He makes an annual visit to Tristan to minister to the Island’s Roman Catholic community.
It is expected that the SA Agulhas will stay in the vicinity for approximately three weeks but the date of departure on 07 October 2009 is provisional.
