Tristan : Annual Sheep Shearing Day 2009
Submitted by Tristan Times (Sarah Glass) 23.01.2009 (Current Article)

Though delayed this annual event has taken place with much community success.

Annual Sheep Shearing Day 2009

Sheep Shearing was held on Monday 19th January 2009. This is the first year that the sheep had to be delayed for shearing until after Christmas, due to the arrival of the cargo vessel, carrying the materials for the new factory.

Sheep Shearing is normally held on the first Saturday after the breakup for Christmas, but due to the Baltic Trader arriving so late, it was cancelled to Saturday 17th January.  This date also fell through due to bad weather, and was held on the Monday.

Sheep Shearing is a day when family and friends come together, to help each other or to shear as a group.  The men usually go early and the women and children follow later in the morning with the lunch packs, the children especially enjoy the day as they got to chase and catch the sheep, for their parents or friends.
