The annual Christmas breakup of three weeks due to start on Friday 19th December will be disrupted, due to the late arrival of the MV Baltic Trader which eventually left Cape Town on Thursday 11th December.

The annual Christmas breakup of three weeks due to start on Friday 19th December will be disrupted, due to the late arrival of the MV Baltic Trader which eventually left Cape Town on Thursday 11th December. She is carrying materials for the reconstruction of the fish factory and components for a heavy-duty harbour crane. Engineers traveling onboard the vessel hope to install the crane during the period that the MV Baltic Trader will take to unload its cargo. Islanders will continue to work throughout the Christmas break when the harbour conditions are good but, will not be working on Christmas Eve & Christmas day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day.
The MFV Edinburgh which departed Tristan on the 28th November for Cape Town, is due to arrive back at Tristan on Friday 19th with the islands Christmas order of fresh/frozen, after unloading her cargo, she will proceed to the fishing grounds and fish until all the quotas at the outer islands have been completed.
The Kelso departed Tristan on the 12th December with the Christmas outgoing mail, passengers and a full freezer of Lobster products, intended for the festive season markets, she is due to depart Cape Town again for Tristan on the 13th January 09.
The first cruise vessel of the season the Europa arrived at Tristan for a 6-hour stop on Saturday the 13th December, the harbour conditions were good (for a change) and approximately 200 passengers manage to make it ashore for a quick tour of the island.
