Tristanians Rescue Disoriented Turtle

To many Tristan is just a speck on the map, however if ever your in trouble in the South Atlantic there's one place you can guarantee rescue, and that's on the island of Tristan da Cunha.

This was certainly the case when a Turtle was washed ashore tangled in the side wings of a trawlers net on the morning of Tuesday the 6th May.

Parts of the trawl-net were found washed ashore on the west of the harbour, by Gary Repetto and Joe Green, who instantly cut the turtle free and informed the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department.

Although the children were on holiday, there was a buss around the village to let them and their parents know, as many have not see a turtle in their life before.  Many people came down to see the turtle, which was still alive before it was release back into the sea at Hottentot Beach a few hours later.
