Operation Zest Gets Underway

The Lyme Bay which departed Cape Town last Saturday arrived at Tristan early yesterday morning to flat calm sea conditions and no wind, unloading got underway immediately to take advantage of the good weather, as onboard was the materials and equipment to repair the harbour as well as approximately 90mt of general cargo for the island.  Unfortunately a second generator needed to help the standby generator on the island (which is currently running electricity daily from 7:30-21:30) did not get clearance in Cape Town early enough to catch the Lyme Bay, and instead will arrive on the fishing vessel M.V. Edinburgh early next week.

Although due to the Edinburgh's crane not having the lifting capacity, the Edinburgh will have to go alongside the Lyme Bay so that her crane can lift it out of the Edinburgh's cargo hold.  At present the Royal Engineers are getting their equipment ashore and organizing accommodation before starting the repairs on Calshot Harbour
