THE DEATH OF HUBERT ROBERT GREEN
Many of the islanders were shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Hubert Green on Saturday 5th January 2008. He was discovered at home around 9am, by his close friend and neighbor Stella Rogers.
Hubert was 82 years being born in 1925. He did not have children and was pre-deceased, some years ago, by his wife Harriet. At the funeral service held at St. Mary's Church on Sunday 6th January, Lay-Minister Lars Repetto described Hubert as a very hard working and kind man loved and respected by all on the island. He will be remembered for his work as a welder at the factory, for his gardening and faithful support of the church.
Father Chris, in his address to a large congregation, spoke of Hubert's loyalty and faithfulness as a Christian and from the Parish records was able to inform the congregation that Hubert was baptized in December 1926 by Robert Glass and then formally received into the church by the Revd R. Pooley.
The late Agnes Rogers noted for her Christian courage and faithfulness, and founder of the Roman Catholic Church on the island, was a sponsor at Hubert's baptism; Fr. Chris suggested that she may well have inspired the depth of commitment to Our Lord, which was so much part of Hubert's own faith journey. The messages of condolence were read by Lay-Minister Carlene Glass Green and the hymns chosen by the family for the service were: Rock of Ages, What a Friend we have in Jesus, and Hubert's favorite hymn, Oh Lord my God.
Our deepest sympathies are extended to Bridget and Margaret his surviving sisters and to his close family members on the island.
