This morning, 11 May 2007, Ethel Yon, Deputy to Governor and Acting Chief Secretary, was sworn in as Acting Governor for St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.

SWEARING IN OF ACTING GOVERNOR
This morning, 11 May 2007, Ethel Yon, Deputy to Governor and Acting Chief Secretary, was sworn in as Acting Governor for St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
The ceremony took place in the Governor’s Office at the Castle in the presence of the Bishop, Sheriff, Members of Executive and Legislative Councils, Heads of Department and other invited guests.
The Sheriff, Pat Musk, JP MBE, administered the Oaths of Office and Bishop John gave a blessing.
In her address, the Acting Governor thanked everyone for attending and said “she received a lot of support on other occasions and looked forward to continued support”.
Following the address, invited guests congratulated the Acting Governor on her appointment and enjoyed light refreshments.
The appointment is to run from 11th May to 27th May inclusive and the Acting Governor will then serve as Deputy to Governor from 28th May to 30 May. While she serves as Acting Governor, Dr Corinda Essex, Chief Development Officer, is to serve as Acting Chief Secretary.
Governor Clancy is currently away from the island to attend the Governor’s Conference in London on 15 – 16 May. In London the Governor will also attend and speak at the Reception on St Helena Day, 21 May to mark the 100th voyage of the RMS St Helena. On this occasion he will also present the St Helena Badge of Honour to recipients who now live in the UK. The Governor will also take the opportunity to attend meetings with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
