Tristan : Tristan's Election Results
Submitted by Tristan Times (Sarah Glass) 04.04.2007 (Article Archived on 25.04.2007)

The new Island Council covers a wide experience of knowledge and we wish them all the best during the coming three years.

GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS

The new Chief Islander is to be Conrad Glass who beat his friend James Glass by just nine votes.

The new Island Council replaced the old Island Council entirely and consists of the following;

Lorraine Repetto
Conrad Glass
Robin Repetto
Dereck Charles Rogers
Ian Lavarello
James Patrick Glass
Iris Green
Lillie Carlene Swain

The three members appointed by the Administrator have all been former Chief Islanders;

Harold Green 1970-1973, 1979-1982, 1985-1988
Anne Green  1988-1991, 2003 - 2006
Lewis Glass  1991-1994

Six others standing for Island Council were not elected.  Of a total of 226 Registered Voters, 127 Ballot Papers were received, including 10 Postal Votes. The turnout of voters was thus 56.2%.  Usually the turnout is around 60-70%, however many people think the low turnout was due to the visit of the cruise vessel, and the fact that the Presiding Officer did not visit the pensioners so that they could cast their vote, as has been done in the past.

The new Island Council covers a wide experience of knowledge and we wish them all the best during the coming three years.
