Recent heavy rains on Tristan da Cunha have caused a mudslide that blocked the road to the patches.  On the night of 16 May 2006 an especially fierce storm with lots of rain as well as thunder caused the landslide, which is thought to be the contents of a pond caused by another landslide at Knockfolly Gulch at 2,000 ft, nearly 1/3rd way up Tristan’s 7,000 ft mountain.

The heavy rain caused the pond to burst and fall down the mountain towards the road.  At the moment, the Transport Department on Tristan da Cunha is cleaning up the damage.
