Tristan : Nightingale Island: A Zodiac Tour

Tristanians go to Nightingale Island when the need a little holiday. They sail to the Island in canvass and wood long boats. This is done when the sea conditions are right.

Nightingale Island.  You can see the rich kelp beds around the volcanic island.

A closer look shows lava caves that dot the jagged coastline.

Pretty Nightingale Island has lush vegitation in the interior but a rocky coastline.

Sub Antarctic Fur Seals can be seen lounging on the beach.

Tristanians holiday on Nightingale Island but the May 21, 2001 Hurricane damaged all of the shacks that they use for shelter and for cooking.

Rockhopper Penguins (Pinnymens) have invaded the small cluster of shacks.  Some of these shacks have been repaired.  Tristanians sail their canvass and wood Long Boats to the island when sea conditions are right.
