The Edinburgh being offloaded in calmer weather
By James Glass (Tristan Times)
People awaiting post on Tristan when the Fishing Vessel ESPARDARTE arrived off Edinburgh of the Seven Seas on Thursday, 27 October 2005, had to wait for a few days while the weather and harbour conditions settled down enough for it to be offloaded.
Weather conditions were so bad that the vessel couldn’t even get to the fishing grounds until the Saturday.
Finally, on Saturday, 29 October a loan barge went out to the ESPARDARTE and offloaded eleven bags of mail, medical supplies and packages.
This was a lucky instance as there are times that weather, sea and harbour conditions prevent cargo laden vessels and people from coming ashore. It has been known for cargo to be taken back to Cape Town to await another fishing vessel.
