Tristan : Tristan's Women Settle Strike
Submitted by Tristan Times (Juanita Brock) 01.10.2005 (Current Article)

Tristan's part-time factory workers will earn 12.94% more than they did this time last month.

TRISTAN’S WOMEN SETTLE STRIKE

By J. Brock (SARTMA-TdC)

The strike by part time workers at Tristan da Cunha’s Lobster Factory has been settled.  On Friday, 30 September 2005 the fishing company in conjunction with the Head of Natural Resources and a Supervisor representing the women had a meeting at which the Company made another offer.

This time the women accepted the deal, which has raised their per box rate by 12.94%, with extra fees for working on Saturday.

Although the offer was not what the women asked for, they felt that everyone wanted an end to the strike.  If it had gone on, the strike could have affected everyone on the Island and lost much needed revenue.
