TRISTAN CATCH GOOD DESPITE SEISMIC ACTIVITY
Sarah Glass

Despite the frequent seismic activity in the waters around Tristan, Fisheries officials say that there has been a good catch this year.
The 2004/05 lobster season ended on the 22nd April. This year catches were again as good as they had been for the past few years, the catch per unit effort (CPUE) has continued to increase, despite the many changes introduce to the fishery last year. There was also a 20mt increase in the Tristan quota to 158mt and a 30mt reduction in the Gough Island quota to try and increase stock biomass. The quota was landed in 42 days at Tristan but could have been landed early, if there was not a restriction on landings at the Factory, this was due to landing a good quality product. The total quota for the Tristan group was 358 for the 2004/05 season.
Given the good catch this year, it is hoped that next year’s season will be just as successful.
