Tristan : TARION Breaks Up on Tristan's Rocks Crew Safe

The South African press has reported that Yacht TARION put into the local anchorage on Tristan da Cunha just off the settlement of Edinburgh on Sunday 30 April en route from Brazil to Cape Town.

TARION - not much left after the storm
The South African press has reported that Yacht TARION put into the local anchorage on Tristan da Cunha just off the settlement of Edinburgh on Sunday 30 April en route from Brazil to Cape Town.
Bad weather and engine problems had led to the diversion via Tristan where owner Mirek Bartos, and father, Mike, planned to attempt repairs. They were onboard their yacht when tragedy struck.
Strong winds forced the yacht onto a lee shore and, at 0415 on Tuesday 3 May, they issued a 'Mayday' distress call as they ran aground on rocks close to the settlement. They succeeded in rigging a line to the rescue party on the shore, and were able to swim to safety. Both were unharmed, were taken to Camlogi hospital where they are now recuperating from their ordeal.
Sadly, the yacht could not be saved. The first image was taken at 0830 (the poor light gives an indication of the bad weather), showing the yacht stranded on the rocks. By 1300, at the time the second photo was taken, the wooden hull had broken up with wreckage strewn along the shore line.
