British Geological Survey have taken an interest in the on-going tremors that have been plaguing Tristan da Cunha for the past month and a half.  They are sending Dr. Victoria Hards, who arrives on 10 September aboard SA AGULHAS.  While on Tristan, she will be studying seismic data.

The latest data shows that the Island has suffered a series of swarm earthquakes in recent days.  As yet, it is not known exactly where the source of these tremors is but it is thought to be in the seabed near to Tristan.

Scientists wanting samples of the floating rocks found around Tristan by fishermen can request them by using the contact section on this website.  Please send requests in by 20 September.

Seismic activity was noticed on Tristan da Cunha over the weekend of 29 July 2004, when it was reported that the 1961 volcano was vibrating.
