The new Head Teacher of Prince Andrew School, Abraham Swart accompanied by his wife arrived on island on Tuesday, 11th January 2011.

The new Head Teacher of Prince Andrew School, Abraham Swart accompanied by his wife arrived on island on Tuesday, 11th January 2011.
Abraham is embarking on a two year contract and will officially take on Headship of Prince Andrew School on 24th January 2011 from his predecessor, and current Head Teacher, John Sullivan.
A full and varied diary of activities is planned for the new Head Teacher and since his arrival Abraham has already had a complete induction to the School and Senior Staff as well as met with Senior Staff of the Education Department. Before taking up post he will also meet the Governor, Chief Secretary, Education Committee, and other colleagues, parents and students. Abraham will also pay visits to the Adult and Vocational Education Centre and the three Primary schools.
Speaking about his appointment to the Post, Abraham said:
“I look forward to making a positive difference in my role of leader of Prince Andrew School. To create positive relationships and develop staff to be leaders of their respective areas, inspiring students to set goals which reflect the utmost of their capabilities and engaging parents to be active partners in learning through ongoing communication.”
Abraham has an accomplished career as an Administrator and Educator and has practiced in South Africa, New Zealand, the UK and Kenya.
Also returning to the island on Tuesday was John Sullivan who will continue working as Head Teacher until 24th January 2011. He will then be working with the Education Department in his role as Whole School Improvement Partner, under the Education Sector Support Programme 2 which is funded by the Department for International Development. John will work on a number of Education Projects including working with the Primary Education Officer and Sector on assessing the impact of the Maths and Science Trainers’ visits and the whole school improvement agenda. He will also be working with the Education Officer for Training and Special Needs on the implementation of new practices which the Personal Social Health and Citizenship Education Coordinator, Cheryl Bedwell, and Director of Learning, Dion Yon were introduced to on their overseas training. Additionally John will be working on bridging the gap issues between Primary year 6 and Secondary year 7 (Transition between Key stages 2 & 3). He will also be giving technical advice, guidance and support to the new AVES Manager. John will leave the Island on 22nd February 2011.
