Shipping News

The fishing vessel Viking Bay arrived at Inaccessible Island on the 28th October from South America.  Collected a Sea Fishery Observer from the MV Edinburgh before steaming to the seamounts to fish.

The HMS Southampton and RFA Gold Rover arrived at Tristan at 0830, on Tuesday 30 October. The weather was not on their side being extremely wet and overcast.  Both the Government and Factory barge crews spent all day disembarking a considerable number of visitors throughout the day, who were able to visit the Post Office, Island Store, Handicraft Shop, Museum and Churches.  At 1000 the Administrator Mr David Morley invited all sailors to a reception in the Prince Phillip Hall, to meet a number of islanders.   The Café and Pub usually close during a normal working day was also open for refreshments.  There was a football match between the islanders and the Navy, in the afternoon to which the Navy won.  The vessels departed in the evening on a fishery patrol before heading for their next port of call.

The Kelso arrived at Tristan on the 5th November to bad weather conditions.  Only the passengers were collected from the vessel, after which the vessel went to Inaccessible Island for a safe anchorage.  She returned to Tristan on the 8th November to unload her cargo, and pump fuel to the island.  She continued loading on the 9th November, embarked passengers and departed for Cape Town via Gough Island, where she will collect lobster product from the MV Edinburgh.

The fishing vessel Viking Bay return to Tristan again on the 8th November with sick seamen onboard, he was operated on at Camogli hospital and will remain until he is fit enough to travel.

Last mail before Christmas.

The fishing vessel Kelso will depart Cape Town again on the 24th November for Tristan, and this will be the last vessel to depart Cape Town, until the next year.
