CONFIRMATION AT ST MARY'S

The following young people were confirmed at St Mary's Anglican Church on Sunday 30th September. Danny Swain, Michelle Green, Stephanie Glass , Dean Repetto, Julian Repetto, Patrick Green, Caryn Green, Riaan Repetto, Lynette Green, Megan Elsmore (the granddaughter of Lay Minister Lars Repetto).
Following three months of careful preparation by Fr. Christopher Brown and Lay Minister Lars Repetto the candidates were interviewed by Bishop Christopher Gregorowski who found them enthusiastic and well able to answer, with real understanding, the many questions put to them about what it means to make a commitment to Jesus Christ. At the service of Confirmation which was attended by about 140 people Bishop Christopher preached and the officiating Lay Minister was Eddie Rogers. Immediately following their Confirmation the newly confirmed sang the modern hymn, "Be Free in the Love of God." Which was warmly received by the congregation.
Lay Minister Carlene Glass-Green photographed the candidates with the Bishop at the end of the service before he set off to visit the houses of all the candidates where he was given refreshments.
Dedication of Memorial Plague- Allan Bryant Crawford 1933-2007
A fine memorial plaque was dedicated to the memory of Allan Crawford on Tuesday 2nd October 2007, at St Mary's Church. Present on that occasion were David Morley, the new Administrator and Conrad Glass, the Chief Islander. Following the reading of the lesson from Ecclesiasticus Ch.44 by Fr. Christopher Brown, Bishop Christopher Gregorowski a close friend of Allan Crawford for many years, gave a fascinating account of Allan's life which included many personal recollections and insights into a life blessed with extraordinary gifts and practical wisdom. Mr Harold Green was invited by the Bishop to unveil the plaque and after the closing prayers many of those present took the opportunity to take photographs before attending a farewell reception at the Rectory for Bishop Christopher. Among gifts received by the Bishop which included a bag of penguin eggs (!), the Church Council presented Bishop Christopher with a large island flag. In closing remarks he expressed the view that he would like to return to the island again for a holiday and suggested that the year 2010 would be a good time for a Bishop to pay a pastoral visit at which time several young people will be old enough to consider confirmation. Fr. Christopher thanked the Bishop for his time on the island; for bringing so much fun to the young through his sense of humour and story telling and comfort to the elderly with whom he prayed in their homes. Everyone on the island enjoyed his visit and send to him and to Margaret their warmest regards and prayers for their continued good health and happiness in retirement.
Father Christopher Brown.
