Tristan : Berrimilla Heads Towards Tristan
Submitted by Tristan Times (Juanita Brock) 09.10.2005 (Article Archived on 23.10.2005)

The Yacht Berrimilla with Peter Crozier and Alex Wintworth aboard is heading towards Tristan da Cunha.

BERRIMILLA HEADS TOWARDS TRISTAN

By J. Brock (SARTMA-TdC)

Having sailed the 2004 Rolex Sydney-Hobart both Alex and Peter took off to the Falklands and then sailed on to the UK, in January 2005.  The yacht Berrimilla left Sydney, Australia and ploughed through the Southern Ocean, rounding the Horn 159 days later and stopping in the Falkland Islands.  During the passage the team encountered severe storms south of New Zealand where Berrimilla had to put into Dunedin as Alex Wintworth had severely bruised ribs.        They healed in time for Alex to take part in Standard Chartered bank’s Stanley Marathon shortly after arriving in the Falklands.

The team of Peter Crozier and Alex Wintworth then sailed to the UK to participate in the 2005 Rolex Fastnet yacht race, coming in 8th in IRC Class 3.  They set sail again for Australia after the race to be in Sydney again in time for the 2005 Sydney to Hobart Race.

Berrimilla is just about to pass Tristan da Cunha on her way to the Cape of Good Hope on the non-stop trip back to Australia.

Several good websites mention Berrimilla and they are:

http://www.rorc.org, http://www.berrimilla.com, and, if you would like to contact the crew, you can do it through jeannecrozier@hotmail.com.
