Tristan da Cunha is looking for an Agricultural Advisor to start work in August 2016. An Adviser is needed to assist with all aspects of the development of livestock and agriculture on the Island.

Brock (FINN) Tristan da Cunha is looking for an Agricultural Advisor to start work in August 2016. An Adviser is needed to assist with all aspects of the development of livestock and agriculture on the Island. The island has approximately 1000 acres of poor grazing land for 300 cattle and 500 sheep, while the community produces potatoes in family run allotments. Planning to harvest fruits, vegetables and other crops, the Islanders wish to reduce its reliance on imported foodstuffs. The right stuff for this post includes the ability to demonstrate expertise gained in the UK in the following areas: “AI and modern medication for livestock; Arable crop rotation; Orchard creation, management and development; Tending to legumes in Greenhouses - extensive experience of developing successful greenhouse operations; Livestock maintenance (beef/dairy/sheep) and general animal husbandry, as well as providing support, guide and training for current Agriculture staff.” According to the advertisement, an attractive package available, including free accommodation and travel. Salary is negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications. The contract is for two years but this depends on the shipping schedule.
