The RS Maria S. Merian, the German research vessel arrived at Tristan on the 9th January. This was her second visit, returning to collect instruments deployed a year ago.

The RS Maria S. Merian, the German research vessel arrived at Tristan on the 9th January. This was her second visit, returning to collect instruments deployed a year ago.
Two scientists came and stayed ashore to collect rock samples, whilst a team of islanders went on-board to help retrieve equipment from Nightingale Island that was position there a year ago.
The weather was beautiful throughout their few days whilst operating around Tristan, and islanders were invited for a tour of the vessel before she departed for Cape Town.
The M.V. Edinburghwill depart Cape Town at 14:00 on the 11th January for her third fishing trip of the season. She will first discharge cargo, some of which no doubt will be late Christmas mail and then start fishing at Inaccessible Island.
