MORE AIRBRIDGE SEATS FOR ST HELENA AND ASCENSION ISLAND
The St Helena and Ascension Island Government are pleased to announce an increase in the number of Airbridge seats between Ascension and Brize Norton available for sale to members of the public for flights connecting with sailings of the RMS St Helena.
From 1 January 2013 the Ministry of Defence will double the allocation of seats to the Ascension Island Travel Agency from 10 to 20 for the flights connecting with the RMS in Ascension. In addition the Ministry of Defence will continue to work closely with the Ascension Island Travel Agency to ensure that there is capacity to meet periods of higher demand for seats – including for Christmas 2012.
This welcome development comes after discussions between the St Helena and Ascension Governments, the Ministry of Defence and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. It underscores the commitment to using the Airbridge to support economic development in the South Atlantic in addition to its key role of supplying the UK’s military presence in the Falkland Islands.
Julian Morris, Chief Executive of Enterprise St Helena said:
“I am delighted at this important commitment from the Ministry of Defence which was the result of joined up working between the FCO, SHG and AIG. In addition to improving access to St Helena for Saints in the UK, Ascension and the Falklands, the additional seats will improve confidence in the route amongst Saints and tourists which in turn will assist our work to develop tourism to St Helena and Ascension Island.”
